The first gasoline powered vehicle was constructed in Germany in 1885. Henry Ford built the first car in the United States in 1896. This is when and how he changed the lives of the American people and their future. Several laws and government restrictions affected the auto industry since the 1960 s. The consumers had numerous concerns to build safer automobiles and safer environments. In 1966, Congress passed a safety act called the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Gale 2004). This act improved visibility, safety, and to install a proper braking system so that not only the driver stayed safe, but the passengers as well. Then in the 1970 s, Congress passed yet another act that demanded all automobiles pass a test that decreased emissions by 90% within six (6) years, which was called the Clean Air Act. This act was mainly the result of the oil crisis in the 1970 s when the major industrial countries of the world (US, Canada, Western Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand), and faced large petroleum shortages. This crisis steered stagnant economic growth in many countries as oil prices surged and then by the 1980 s they stabilized. (Ref 1) The auto industry is one of the largest sources of US global warming emissions. The Pressure of Eating Disorders With all of the pressures of daily life, some look to eating disorders to help ease the pain. In recent statistics on the webpage for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health states, â€Å"It is estimated that 8 million Americans have an eating disorder- seven million women and one million men.† Among the millions are actors Paula Abdul, Elton John, and Joan Rivers to name a few. (Eating Disorder Statistic 2006).With the disorders becoming a growing problem, physicians look at each case to see how the disorder affects the person individually. Review Of Tom Thumb Mike Mayoka Film I Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb The film The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb was one that blended many traditional styles of Film making into one concise and creative format. It is this creative blend of pixilation, claymation, and animation that make this film interesting and fresh to me. While viewing the film, I was absorbed in the manner in which the characters interacted with each other with nearly no sound to speak of. Instead the usual grunting that they used was enough to allow the audience to follow the flows and actions of those in each scene. Personally though, I felt that this choice of leaving the film in a more silent than spoken, held the film back from reaching its full potential. The methods used to shoot this film allowed for more creative characters, scenes and more ingenious shots. The little people, like Tom Thumb, were able to have been filmed taking part in some rather odd antics; including the laboratory scenes, the miniature town scenes, and when Tom and his friend ambushed the two humans with blow darts. Crossing the claymation with the pixilation of the human world was a very nice transitory measure as far as keeping the continuity rolling well. The effects that were created helped to make this movie as interesting and original as it is. I enjoyed the film very much, and would like to see any others made by this group of filmmakers Film and Cinema
